Mix and Match Your Wardrobe

Even though it may not seem like it, I absolutely LOVE fashion! I love getting new outfits and strutting around town in my awesome duds, so when I created a closet full of one hit wonders, I wasn’t surprised when I soon got tired of wearing the same old outfits again and again and again. And then I happened upon this amazing and inspiring blog! Not only does Audrey (the nifty author of Putting Me Together) post photos of astounding outfits that just make me squirm to go buy my own, but she also posts fabulous ideas on how to re-work your current closet, posts on travel tips, and just awesome fashion ideas in general!

After stalking her blog (okay, maybe not stalk, but heavily watching), I’ve begun to follow her  ideas starting with mixing and matching. And, wha-bam! I instantly had over 2x more outfit options! For example, let’s say you have the two outfits as seen below:

Two Simple Outfits

Cute, right? Now, just mix and match! And tada!

Two Simple Outfits

You now have 4 outfits instead of 2! (This may be no-brainer stuff to some of you, but for me and people like me who have closets full of one hit wonders, breaking out of the mindset that “this can only go with that” can be very difficult.)

I encourage you all to check out Putting Me Together! Audrey has done a wonderful job, and is extremely helpful to all–even those who are new at the re-working thing. I know she’s helped me a whole lot, and she doesn’t even know me! Check her out; you’ll absolutely love it!

I hope this post has been inspirational and informative! Thanks for reading!

This Summer and the End of a Semester

I got a full time internship for the summer! But don’t worry–I’ll still post! It just may be in the evenings instead of during the day. Be sure you like either the Facebook page or follow my tweets so that you will be alerted to my posts while you’re away from your computer during the evenings (assuming that you follow my posts with your work email). Alright, now ending the shameless self-promotion.

Right now, I’m up to my ears in boxes and duct tape.

Scary, I know...and this is only HALF of it!

It’s incredibly hard to try to decide what will stay in storage over the summer and what I will be bringing home with me! (My college is in Oklahoma, but I live in the Houston, Tx area so I leave stuff I don’t need in a storage facility until the next semester begins.) The only problem is that I keep deluding myself into thinking that I’ll need it ALL during the summer! Granted, I’m not trying to bring my sweaters and coats home with me, but I just can’t help but think that I’ll need all of my art supplies (which I probably won’t) and my library of books (even though I doubt I’d read 4 boxes of books while holding a full-time job) and other things like dishware and lamps and wall decorations!

I’ll get it straightened out eventually, which kind of leads my mind to something that I’ve been needing and wanting to do but I’ve never had the time or the means (ahem, $$$) to do so. I want to go clothes shopping! After I either sell what I can to Plato’s Closet and donate the rest to Goodwill. Now with my new job, I’ll be able to donate/sell and buy new things. (This means more fashion posts!) I think I’ll call this belated spring cleaning (of my wardrobe). I’ll probably make the cleaning process of my good and faithful (and horrendously old and outdated) collection of clothing an organization/fashion post.

This summer is going to be full of new things, and I can’t wait to tell you all about them! From office tricks and tips to new outfits to an endless array of food recipes and dishes! (That’s right, I’m the chef in the family!) I hope you all stay tuned and don’t let your finals/jobs/projects/papers stress you out! If you do start to feel stressed (or are), hop on over to an earlier post (The Importance of Keeping Your Cool) and relax a bit.

I’ll post again (probably after I’m all unpacked at home), but I wish you all to be safe as you travel (from college to home or from home to work)! Thanks for reading!

Throwback Fashion!

Summer is just around the corner! What better way to stay cool than to wear cut up t-shirts and wide-brimmed hats? That’s right! This post is to urge these cool outfits while paying homage to their origins! First up, the cut up or peek-a-boo shirt, off the shoulder shirt. We all probably have one or two in our dressers–I know I do!

They originated from the 60s and 70s when it was “all the rage” to show off some non-cleavage skin. I find them very comfortable, so I wear them every now and then. But the cool thing about dressing in clothes from other time periods is that you can play up your look. For example, go all out with the eye shadow and rock the side pony!

Another thing that’s in style now is the wide-brimmed hat. Not only does it keep you cool under the hot rays of the sun, but it is a definite fashion statement! This trend originated from the 30s. Go for a retro look with your makeup. Only give yourself a defined cat’s eye and a ruby pout! It’s totally worth it!

I hope this post was inspiring! Thanks for reading!

Trendy Neon!

Who else is thrilled at this spring’s new trend? I’m completely psyched! Not only is neon extremely eye catching, but it also gives the appearance of a nice tan to any who wear it! I love this little tidbit because I don’t tan well, and I’m not inclined to spray tanning. Although, one of the best things about neon being trendy is that you don’t have to worry about matching neon colors. You can wear yellow with pink with green with blue–it doesn’t matter because they are all neon! It definitely opens up many wardrobe doors for the next few months or so (or until something else begins to trend.)

Right now, stores are dishing out neon EVERYTHING! You name it, it’s most likely available in neon. Nail polish, makeup, hair accessories, hair dyes, clothing, accessories, bags, shoes–even kitchen utensils! Even movies are participating in the neon trend. I know that in the Hunger Games movie, most of the Capital people wore outlandish makeup and hair styles that were colored with neon shades (like Effie’s makeup in it’s neon pink splendor). I’m not suggesting that we all decide to look like Octavia or Effie for a day, but I have a few outfits up my sleeve that capitalize on the neon. First of all, let’s go for a casual look:

Made on my Polyvore account.

Depicted is an outfit of dark washed pants, rolled up, a lime green tank under a sheer neon yellow shrug, and neon yellow shoes. You can add any neon accessories, like my pink sunglasses.

Next, let’s see a more professional look:

Made with my Polyvore account.

Here’s a nude colored shirt, black dress pants, and nude pumps. I’ve swapped the glasses for a bright neon belt, and lime earrings and watch. You can also add subtle details like the gold necklace that compliments both the nude and the neon.

One fun fact about neon is that you can’t really go wrong with pairing it with other colors and styles. I can easily pair the casual tops with the dress pants and neon shoes for a new look–just like I can pair the dressy top with the dark wash jeans, neon accessories, and nude pumps. Here we have four different outfits from four articles of clothing. (You can make more, I’m sure, but I don’t have the patience right now to figure out just how many good looking outfits you can make with what I have on hand.)

My advice to you is to just see what’s out there and experiment! Just rest easy with the fact that you can’t really go wrong with neon. I hope this has inspired you all! Thanks for reading!
